How “healthy" is your relationship with “health”

When we first start out on our health and wellness journey, we can become so fixated on healing and making healthy choices that it can usurp us from our enjoyment of life. Speaking from experience here, try not to let this happen!

The whole point of prioritising health and wellness is to be able live your best and longest life and purse your dreams free of chronic illness and degeneration. It’s a means to this end- not an end in and of itself. It all about building up a strong foundation of health that enables you to withstand the occasional assaults that you will (intentionally or otherwise) be subjected to by living a full life on this planet. For me, that’s essentially the definition of health.

If you are resilient enough to bounce back from mould, eating out, going on holidays, having the occasional refined sugary treat, being exposed to synthetic personal care products and cleaning products when visiting friends or hotels or enjoying a loved one’s meal made with some refined ingredients but mountains of love ….then you are, in my opinion, healthy.

It’s making sure that you’ve got ample deposits in your ‘health bank account’ that the occasional ‘withdrawal’ will not make a significant long-term impact. If you are so tightly wound up about making sure every deliberation is a ‘healthy choice’ even when things are outside your control and this causes you undue stress- you are missing the whole point of enjoying life.

Stress is more toxic than the toxic exposure itself.

We make healthy choices most of the time in our day to day life so that our body can bounce back easily when (not if) we are subjected to toxicity.

This is not permission to make unhealthy choices with reckless abandon. Vibrant health is being so intune with your body that you know what you can and can not tolerate. e.g. a coeliac will have a much tough time bounding back from gluten than someone who is not a coeliac.

You will know when you have a healthy relationship with health when you have integrated all of the learnings and don’t think about health too much in your day to day life because you are too busy enjoying your best life and pursuing your dreams and goals (with a well-functioning and abled mind, body and soul).

Does this resonate?
