10 years with Young Living has benefited my life in these 10 ways
It was exactly 10 years that I was on the tail end of my mould illness journey and someone introduced me to YL’s signature, revolutionary oil blend called Thieves - named after the group of thieves / robbers in 15th century France who protected themselves against the highly contagious black plague with a special concoction of herbs, spices and oils while robbing valuables from the dead and dying.
Gary Young (the founder of Young Living - the largest essential oils company globally which sets the standard for the essential oils industry) researched the spices that the French thieves used and formulated an essential blend with therapeutic grade clove, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, lemon and rosemary essential oils.
This powerful blend was university tested at Weber State University in 1997 to kill airborne pathogenic bacteria within 10 minutes of diffusion. While this famous study did not focus on mould, separate independent lab studies show that the individual components of the blend (especially the components of cinnamon bark oil and clove oil) possess strong natural antifungal and antimycotic properties that can inhibit mould spore germination.
Consequently this blend is extensively used to boost immunity (especially in cooler weather), is the number one oil to combat mould and is the basis of Young Living’s highly coveted global “Thieves” cleaning range. It is also the most copied oil blend in the world (but you won’t get the same therapeutic traction from other oil brands).
I was drawn to Thieves’ divine smell (think hot cross buns) and impressed by the massive detox effects it had on my system to expel the last remnants of mould from my system.
History aside, Young Living has benefitted me and my family in a million ways since I was introduced to the brand in 2016 but here are the top 10 ways that it has changed my life:
1. The YL oils quickly became my “mama magic medicine cabinet” in place of pharmaceuticals and herbal tinctures, allowing me to reclaim power from external providers and become my family’s alchemist and healer, something my ancient feminine DNA craved ever since I had kids. “There’s an oil for that!” quickly became my motto as I realised that there is literally a YL oil that can support any and every physical and emotional condition including colds, flus, fevers, infections, stress, fear, headaches, PMT, peri/menopause, hormones, toxicity, mould, poor focus, tummy upsets, cuts, bites, stings, burns, teething, sleep, high blood pressure, skin issues, emotional malaise, bruises and everything in between. Of course I still depend on naturopaths and integrative GPs for diagnostics, interpretation of test results and the really big stuff but for day to day niggles that crop up (constantly with kids!) it is so empowering to be able to reach for an oil in my wellness cabinet to better support myself and my kids without outsourcing to external providers.
How much more convenient is it to whack an oil on a kid or diffuse it in their room than bribe them to take a foul tasting tincture?!?
2. Being able to work from home (goodbye corporate grind), with my kids around me, in the health & wellness space, without further study, sharing products that I already use and love, is something that truly lights me up separate to being a mum. The income that I have earned has enabled me to help so many more people on the planet, including sponsoring a sponsor child in Equador.
5. The ability to visit YL farms and travel the world. Not all essential oils are created equal and not all oil companies are equal in their values, ethics and transparency. YL pride themselves in their seed to seal policy which provides full transparency from planting of non GMO seeds, harvesting at their peak harvest time (so the oils work therapeutically), freshly distilling on site (so the oils don’t lose their potency), testing (more than any other oils company in the world) and sealing of the bottle –this process makes YL unique and fully transparent. I have had the privilege of visiting numerous YL farms around the world from their main farm in Utah, the lavender farm in Idaho, the Bergamot farm in Italy and the helichrysum farm in Croatia. Many years ago I realised that I didn’t need to plan for holidays as YL takes care of this for me. 14 different YL trips in 10 years has been more than I ever could have dreamt for in my wildest dreams.

7. An unexpected side benefit of the YL business is personal development on steroids. When you are inspiring and empowering others to overcome their fears and step into the best versions of themselves in order to create a successful business of their own, I realised that you have to do the same too. The only thing holding us back is ourselves.
8. Continuous health and wellness education. I learn so much from the daily Q & A in our active closed facebook group, from researching answers to questions thrown at me daily by our YL members and from webinars that we host monthly. YL also continuously invests in our education and personal development through conventions, webinars, events and training.
9. Upleveling my personal health. This turns the traditional business model on its head.
