Benefits of Geranium Bourbon ESSENTIAL OIL

Dear community

Geranium bourbon is a different from standard Geranium oil in a few respects (and no it doesn’t contain alcohol…the word bourbon did through me at first hehe).  Here are some key differences:

  • Geranium Bourbon is grown and distilled in Madagascar (formerly Île Bourbon), while standard Young Living Geranium often originates from Egypt.

  • Geranium Bourbon has a richer, more complex, and sweeter rose-like scent with fresh, green, and fruity undertones. It is often described as more refined than the slightly more herbaceous standard Geranium. Due to its superior, deeper scent, Geranium Bourbon is often prized for perfumery (sometimes called "poor man's rose") and is highly effective in skincare, especially for balancing sebum in both oily and dry skin, providing a natural glow to the skin and shinier hair. Yes please!!!

  • It possesses a high ester content, which contributes to its distinct, long-lasting aroma, another reason it is prized in perfumery.

Both oils share similar therapeutic benefits, such as being balancing, calming, and uplifting, but Geranium Bourbon is generally considered the more luxurious, fragrant option.

Like many YL essential oils, it is it has antimicrobial, antifungal and antiseptic qualities and hence also used for skin irritations, wounds, or inflammations.

So you can:

  • Diffuse it

  • Apply topically as a perfume or for skin ailments

  • Dilute it in a carrier oil and use as a face and body moisturiser

  •  Add a few drops in your shampoo or conditioner
